.kaiya talks.

Lately, Kaiya has been repeating words back to us!!  It's pretty exciting.  She's been saying "mama" and "dada" for a while now...and of course, once the camera is on her she goes silent.  But this morning I caught her on camera saying her new words..."hi" and "bye" (sometimes she waves at the same time) and "uh-oh".  It may not sound like she's saying the words, but I promise you...she is.  She's also been saying "papa" but we haven't caught that on camera yet.  Out of all the words...we thinks she loves "uh oh" the best.  Oh, and she also says "boo"...as in peek-a-boo.

I know everyone likes videos since they don't get to see Kaiya in person, so here's one of her giving herself kisses in the mirror and just being Little Miss Kaiya!

Little miss Kaiya has now tried a few different types of food.  She started with rice cereal, moved on to Sweet Potatoes (which she LOVED), and is now eating Apples.  We baked them and pureed them into a smooth consistency.  We even bought the sweet variety.  However, just like adults, babies don't always like their first tries of certain foods.  We're not sure if it was the texture, or just the new flavor...but Kaiya wasn't too keen on the applesauce we made.  The following video was taken the first day we tried to give her the applesauce.   It only took her a couple tries to warm up to it, though, and she now eats it up like there's no tomorrow.

I've been telling you how Kaiya's been able to move around and get to things that she wants.  She's not quite crawling on her hands and knees, though.  She gets up on her hands and knees, like she's going to attempt to crawl, but then she falls on her belly and scoots around that way.

I also decided to include a video of Kaiya making a bunch of noise.  She loves to make noise...her latest is this screeching sound.  Sort of sounds like she's going to cry, but she's not...apparently it's fun for her.

I don't know what it is, but everytime I try and capture Kaiya on the Flip Video doing something I think everyone would like to see, she hears the sound of the Flip turning on and stares at the camera.  Like she knows she's being filmed.  Therefore, she stops doing what I was originally going to capture on camera.  So this video, at first, was Kaiya attempting to crawl.  However, it turned into her smiling at the camera...and showing us how she plays with her rings and feet.

Here she is....trying so hard to get places.  We took this video yesterday morning.  You can see how she likes to get her knees under her.  We keep trying to get Kaiya's cousin Caleb to show her how to crawl, but he'd rather run or just hold her hand (too cute!).  We all think that she's almost there, she just has to figure out her arm movements.  In the meantime, she's fine with rolling to get places.  She'll roll clear across an entire room if we let her!  And as you can hear, she's also into chit chatting.

since kaiya has learned to roll over, she's been trying to roll alllll over the place.  you put her down, turn away for a second, and she's in a completely different spot.  she loves it!  lately, she's been trying to find a way that's easier to get around other than rolling...we're not sure if she's trying to crawl or what.  but from the looks of it, she wants to get a move on...and she manages to get her legs under her and sometimes even up on her knees.  she's one determined little chickee.  here's a video of kaiya trying to move about the room.

.exersaucing.

kaiya’s latest toy adventure is her new evenflo exersaucer walk-around.  the walk-around helps baby reach 10 developmental milestones: tactile development, visual development, object permanence, hand-eye coordination, music development, gross motor skills, object exploration, cause & effect learning, and self-awareness.  so far, she seems to like it.  she’s entertained by it for 30 minutes or so.  she loves the mirror and this bee toy that you pull and it sucks back in while making a buzzing noise.  she hasn’t quite figured how to play with the toys by herself yet.  her arms may be too short at the moment also.  but she seems to love the fact that she can “sit” and “stand” like a big girl.

not only kaiya sparked interest in her new exersaucer.  her cousin caleb was very anxious to try it out as well.  he tried several times to climb into the seat WITH her in it already…but his plan was foiled by myself, eric and dawn.  so…when kaiya was all done with it, he thoroughly enjoyed himself in some exersaucing fun.
