.kaiya's new thing.

Since Kaiya has started crawling like a maniac, her new thing is trying to climb stairs!!!  What?!?  She's constantly trying to climb the three stairs from the living room to the kitchen...and just the other day I caught her trying to climb the stairs going out of the room.  Look at her...she knows she got caught too.  What I didn't catch was her smile after I caught her.  I can't help but smile, though, she's getting so big... and look at her chunky legs.
I caught her again the following day!!

Another new thing that Kaiya does is sit up.  She's good at it, too, now.  So every morning we wake up, Kaiya's sitting up (or trying to crawl over to mommy to get something, whether it be the remote or a phone).  Again, we can't help but smile when we wake up and she's sitting there smiling at us.

This was taken right after her bath, but this is the position she's in when she wakes us up...at 6am!
Speaking of bath, mommy had a little fun with Kaiya's hair that continues to get longer and longer.

.kaiya's 1st easter.

Easter in New Mexico with daddy's side of the family was so much fun.  We started out the day going to church, where Kaiya slept about halfway through.  After church, mommy and daddy took Kaiya to visit Uncle Dennis at his place, where she also got a chance to meet his super cute dog Jack.  Then we all headed back to Grandma Barb's where everyone was preparing Easter dinner.
When we got back, we gave Kaiya her Easter baskets...a Hello Kitty one from mommy and daddy and a cute purple bunny one from Grandma Barb.  Grandpa Dave had a huge floppy Easter Bunny and huge chocolate bunny that he gave Kaiya, too.  Kaiya was really excited to see all the goodies she got in her Easter baskets and couldn't wait to get her hands on them!  But before she could dive into her goodies, she had to take a couple pictures, and Great-Grandpa John was there to help put some smiles on her face.

She was especially interested in these teething biscuits!
And she LOVED them!

Aunt Martha had to leave a little early to head back to Albuquerque so we all ate dinner a little early, which was fine with all of us because it was DELICIOUS....especially the big bowl of German Potato Salad!!  Mommy's mouth is watering just thinking about it, she should probably ask Grandma Barb for the recipe.  As dinner was being prepared, Aunt Anne, Lindsey, Katie, daddy and Dennis showed Kaiya how to play Greedy Greedy.
And while everyone was eating dinner, guess what Little Miss Kaiya snacked on...
Those teething biscuits are pretty messy, but whatever makes her happy.  She has been drooling a LOT again, so we think her two top teeth are coming in!

And before Aunt Martha left, we all sat down to take a few family photos.

And before calling it a night, Kaiya played with Maggie and snuggled up with Katie.

.six months old.

Little Miss Kaiya turned half a year old today!!!  Six months means she can start eating fooooood.  However, Kaiya has to wait until we see Dr. Carolan so he can give us his recommended feeding schedule (her appointment is tomorrow).  I can't believe Kaiya is already 6 months old.  Here's a few things that she's doing:

  • Rolling (both ways)
  • Getting up on her hands and knees (ready to crawl)
  • Sitting
  • Babbling her b's and d's
  • Playing by herself...and throwing a "tantrum" when we take away her favorite toys
  • Recognizing people and reaching for them
  • Reaching for toys and grabbing them with her three fingers
  • Passing things from one hand to another
There's a few more, but I can't think right now as Kaiya is on my lap squirming and trying to slide off!!  Aunty Dawn also says she's crawling, because if you put her on the floor, she will get to a toy that she sees and wants to play with by inching her way on her hands and knees.

OK, Kaiya's really squirming so here's the pictures...

.look who's sitting.

Kaiya's previous attempts at sitting consisted of her folding in half, like a sandwich (what Aunty Stacie in Portland likes to describe it).  However, in the recent days, she's been doing fabulous at sitting straight up like a big girl.  Of course, we're there to spot her...but we also let her fall over sometimes onto the carpet or pillows.

We're now working on her getting from her belly to a sitting position all on her own.  We're anticipating that might take a while, though.

.sitting like a big girl.

I’ve been working on getting Kaiya to sit by herself in the ‘tripod’ position. She’s getting better and better at it, which means she’s getting stronger and stronger. I finally got her to sit long enough to take a picture. I was right there to catch her, of course…see my thumb?!
